How To Eat A Chocolate

In these trying times small indulgences do matter. For some of us the pressure of the times have caused us to run for comfort foods and want to get into bed with the cover over our heads.

What if instead we face the world with a different point of view?

Let's look at these times of challenge as an opportunity to get what we want only now in a different way? In, shall we say, small bites?

Take chocolates for example. Who does not know of the image from movies and television of the bored housewife sitting at home in her tight pedal pushers on her jacquard sofa indulging in a box of chocolates?

What if however, we chose to eat just one chocolate and made it an occasion all by itself? What if we acted as if that one chocolate was the first one we ever ate a treat so rare that we choose to savor every sensation?

Follow my steps to the pure indulgence of slowly eating just one chocolate and you will see how much pleasure there is in one sinfully delicious treat. And you might even notice how you eat chocolates is how you live your life. Do you gobble them or bolt them down? Perhaps you are missing the finer points of life. Do you berate yourself for the calories consumed? Perhaps you cannot really enjoy your life.

Now let's get started on your chocolate adventure.

First make sure you choose your favorite. If you have a box of chocolates with a key do use it to avoid getting a caramel when you wanted a cherry cordial.

Next instead of popping it right into your mouth, take moment to just look at the chocolate.

Notice what color it is, some dark chocolates are the color of espresso. Or is it a milk chocolate the color of um..er.. well, chocolate?

Notice the texture, creamy, smooth or does it have a design swirling along the top?

What shape is it? This delicious treat could be a heart shape, a square flat morsel with a burst of mint inside. Or it could be an oval or the shape of a kiss. Does it have a nut embedded in the sinfully delicious creamy center?

Now give it a sniff. Yes. You read that right. Put your nose to it and inhale.

As you may know most of our sensations of taste comes from our sense of smell.

So go on, get that whiff of the deep delicious chocolate. What are the aromas that stir your senses? Is there a hint of cherry, coffee, caramel? Perhaps hazelnut with a splash of vanilla or raspberry creme.

Get those taste buds ready for a sinful treat.

Wait though. Delayed gratification is half the pleasure of it all.

Take one small bite. Now allow it to melt ever so slowly in your mouth. That's it! Feel the creamy sweet chocolate-y sensation coating your tongue your teeth and sliding down your throat.

Notice how the chocolate makes you feel inside. What does the idea of eating chocolate this way bring up for you? What does it tell you about how you do other things in your life?

Now take another small bite and again let it melt ever so slowly in your mouth. Take your time, enjoy the deliciousness of it all.

By eating your chocolate this way, you will have an experience of pure unbridled pleasure and a whole new way of looking at how your experience the simple joys of life.
