Opioid (Heroin) Use Disorder & Pregnancy is sponsored by Positive Direction and Associates, Inc. and presented by Dr. Davina Moss-King. This is a training to understand the effects heroin use has on women and the fetus. This training will discuss the opioid replacement medications that are safe for the mother and her baby. The participants will be trained on the long term / short term effects on the infant once born: Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, congenital birth disabilities along with other developmental delays as a result of the heroin use. The trainee will also learn counseling and treatment planning techniques that focus on women navigating through the recovery process. The training is useful for substance abuse counselors, social workers, health care professionals, and foster care / adoption agencies. This training is approved by the NYS OASAS Training Department (3 CEU Hours) for CASAC, and CPP; possible 3 CEU's for CRC. Trainer: Davina Moss-King, Ph.D., CRC, CASAC, NCC. Dr. Moss-King has 25 plus years of experience counseling opioid use disorder clients. Dr. Moss-King has a world recognized dissertation Unresolved Grief and Loss Issues Related to Substance Abuse which was turned into the book Grief and Loss Issues Related to Heroin Recovery which was published in 2009. Since 2009 Dr. Moss-King has published a course for the Continuing Medical Education Opioid Dependence and Pregnancy published in 2014. Dr. Moss-King has also written the article Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome: Effects on our Precious Future which was published in the WNY Magazine (Buffalo, NY) October 19, 2015 edition. Dr. Moss-King has also published three chapters from the text book Substance Abuse Counseling: Theory and Practice 5th and 6th editions. Dr. Moss-King is an experienced trainer and has presented for the Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services' Chautauqa County and for the Erie County Prevention Services for Alcholism and Substance Abuse and for the Syposium on substance use and pregnancy sponsored by Catholic Health during the Fall 2015. Dr. Moss-King is an adjunct professor at Canisus College's Counseling Education and Human Services for five years she also has a private practice located in East Amherst with immediate openings.
