Sometimes, I get to thinking about why people are so drawn to the sea. What is the attraction for us, whose ancestors were tree-dwellers? We are so fascinated by the sun, sand and surf, but what draws us to beaches?
If you were to ask me, I think we are all attracted to the water because of one simple thing: Human curiosity. We have always admired the mystical, we have always wondered at the strange. So it is only natural for us to be drawn to the waves that seem to beckon us from a distance.
Similarly, we have always been attracted to the wonders held by the sea. Every culture in the world that lives near a body of water has had tales of mermaids, for example. Similarly, we find many jewels in the sea; various seashells from different creatures, magnificent pearls, and even the estranged bit of coral.
Aside from jewelry, a lot of people like myself find other use for these treasures from the sea. Craftspeople are able to make different items from them; even something as mundane as a picture frame can become quite exquisite when seashells are used in the design. Using them will also give the feeling of being close to the sea. Even though we do not dwell in water, crafts like these make us feel a certain kinship with the ocean somehow.
When you've prepared a whole bunch of these trinkets, it's a good idea to show off your work to more people who will appreciate them. This can be done by going to the numerous craft shows that happen in Louisiana during the year. If you're an aspiring craftsperson, you'll definitely want to rent a booth there. You'll enjoy yourself even if you just decide to visit and be a guest. Either way, I suggest going online first and searching for craft shows in your area.
Come and join the Louisiana Craft Shows! Discover the joys of showing off your crafts, and be a part of Louisiana Craft Fairs now!
