Anyone struggling to loose weight knows that holidays are a crucial time. And one of the worst holidays would be Thanksgiving because it's all about food. Simple adjustments to the regular Thanksgiving dinner dishes can make all the difference between a calorie swamped meal to a lean but enjoyable feast for you and your family.

1. Turkey -- Turkey is the central meal of this holiday and there's no reason for you to avoid it. Turkey is already very lean. The only thins that makes it a problem is when it is basted in butter. Butter has a lot of calories and fat. If you do the cooking, replace the butter with olive oil and herbs. It is very good and it tastes delicious.

2. Eggnog -- Eggnog is a calorie rich beverage and the bad thing is that it doesn't even fill you up. If possible, replace this with a traditional hot cider. If not, then limit yourself to 1-2 cups. It's enough to get you high on the holiday spirit.

3. Rolls and bread -- Change white flour rolls with whole wheat flour or whole floor rolls. And you should try to avoid buttering them.

4. Sweet potatoes --are low calorie vegetables. The problem arises when people make it into casseroles with a lot of fatty and unhealthy ingredients. Simply bake the sweet potatoes. It's both healthy and tasty.

5. Desert -- A lot of people go too far with desserts. It is a quicksand trap of calories. Try to serve fruits as desserts instead. You can create an appealing bowl with lots of cut fruit and serve it to everyone's admiration. A lot of people love fruits and it is very healthy.
