Celebrating a Family Easter

Easter should be a time of special celebration spent with family and friends. If you're the host, it can also be a time of stress spent planning the day and the dinner. If you have your own traditions or are looking for few new ideas to brighten the day and lighten your load, here are some tips than can make the weekend a bit more fun and a whole lot easier.

Let's start with some decorating ideas that can add the perfect touch to any holiday gathering. For Easter our thoughts go to pastel colors, decorative eggs and bunnies, and beautiful spring flowers. If you'll be making a batch of Easter eggs for the kids, you don't have to buy a kit from the store. A simple mixture of vinegar, hot water, and some food coloring will do the job quite nicely. Simply mix the three ingredients together in cups or small bowls and dip your hard-boiled eggs in for perfectly colorful results.

For adding color around the house, consider placing colorful dcor such as streamers in various rooms. You can also place lovely Easter baskets throughout the home filled with treats for the kids or colorful eggs. Add some bunnies and chicks or some beautiful spring flowers as well. You can go with live flowers or silk that you can use year after year.

Since kids adore hunting for Easter eggs be sure to plan a hunt during the day. You can do it outside on a warm day or inside if it's easier of the weather is poor. You just need a bunch of the plastic eggs to fill with treats and treasures to hide around your home. Some people use this as a way to set up the dinner seating. You simply place a number on an egg and a number on the chair and the children will sit based on the number they find. Adults can play too!

When it comes to making the dinner, try to keep it to a reasonable amount of dishes that you can handle or consider asking guests to bring a specific side dish to make your job easier. This will give you more time to get things done and the chance to actually enjoy they day too. To avoid any last-minute hassles, contact your guest in advance to find out if anyone has any special food needs that need to be met.

Ham has become the traditional staple of a great Easter dinner. Slow cooked spiral-sliced glazed ham with pineapple slices is a great main course. You may also consider cooking a turkey - it's not just for Thanksgiving! Many large families will have two or three different main course meats to choose from. Don't be afraid to try something different.

For side dishes the choices are endless. Vegetable medleys, garlic mashed potatoes, herbed salads. Why not let your guests participate by bring some of their favorite - it will make your life a lot easier and it allows them to bring something they enjoy too. Some people really enjoy bring side dishes, so for them and for you, why not take advantage of that opportunity.

Most of all remember to enjoy the special holiday you're spending with loved ones and make time to have some fun. You can follow long-standing traditions or make some new traditions too. The less stressed you are, the smoother the day will be for everyone. Always have some special treats for the kids like jelly beans and chocolate bunnies and your day is sure to be a success!
